Description:
LAKE WALES AREA. Located on Iron Mountain near Lake Wales, these beautiful gardens were first established in the late 1920s by publisher and author Edward Bok. The gardens span 130 acres and feature an abundance of plant life and trees, including azaleas, magnolias, camellias, ferns, pine and oaks. The gardens boast the highest point (298 feet) on the Florida peninsula, and an impressive tower crafted from marble and coquina hosts a 57-bell carillon that chimes on the half hour. Carillon recitals can be enjoyed daily at 1pm and 3pm. Pinewood House, the former home of the Charles Buck, Bethlehem Steel executive, also stands on the garden's property. The Mediterranean Revival style villa features landscaped grounds, interesting architecture and antique French, Spanish and Italian furnishings.
